It’s incredibly unfortunate that Machete received such a big marketing push as compared to Hobo with a Shotgun, because where ‘Chete fails, Hobo succeeds. If only Hollywood could get out of it’s own way sometimes.
Rutger Hauer plays an anonymous hobo who takes things into his own hands to make things better for a future generation.Hauer’s presence in this movie brings a certain film history with it, as if each line on his weathered face represents a role from the past. Shotgun relies heavily on character development, tone, and atmosphere to set up it’s sleek and gory fight scenes.
With wonderful production values that borrow from the best of 70’s sleaze/exploitation, and early 80’s action cheese, Hobo with a Shotgun is psychotic in all the right ways. This pile of murder will leave you feeling warm inside.
